Srinagar, Jun 24 (KNO): Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema Jammu & Kashmir, on the directions of its patron Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, convened an important meeting of the Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee at Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal. According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the meeting witnessed the participation of a large number of prominent religious scholars, spiritual leaders, intellectuals, and notable personalities from society, representing leading religious organizations. The session was presided over by senior religious scholar Agha Syed Muhammad Hadi Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi. During the meeting, scholars and representatives from both sects emphasized that, at a time when the overall situation of Muslims — locally, nationally, and globally — remains extremely vulnerable, it is imperative for Muslims to demonstrate unity and stand together, rising above all differences. The importance and need to observe the month of Muharram in an atmosphere of mutual respect, religious dignity, and complete harmony was strongly highlighted. The speakers unanimously asserted that Muharram-ul-Haram is a deeply sacred month for the entire Muslim Ummah, and any attempt to provoke sectarian or communal discord will not be allowed. Upholding unity was declared a collective and uncompromising responsibility. The meeting expressed serious concern over the fact that live videos, statements, or images shared on social media in the past have led to misunderstandings and hurt religious sentiments. Therefore, all religious organizations and individuals are urged to act responsibly online and refrain from sharing content that could incite or mislead. Speakers and religious scholars were urged to strictly avoid any form of personal or sectarian criticism, especially in view of the fact that most religious gatherings and sermons are now live-streamed or uploaded online. It was strongly emphasized that all banners, posters, and public processions held during Muharram must strictly avoid controversial or provocative language. The speakers also stressed that no irresponsible remarks against revered Islamic personalities, especially the noble Companions of the Prophet (Sahaba) and the purified members of the Prophet’s family (Ahl al-Bayt), will be tolerated. Such statements are deeply hurtful and have the potential to disturb the peaceful atmosphere. At this critical juncture, scholars and organizations were urged to maintain close contact with the youth and guide them with sensitivity and wisdom. Prominent participants of the meeting included veteran scholar Moulana Shaukat Hussain Keing, Agha Syed Mujtaba Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi; representative of Moulana Masroor Abbas Ansari — Agha Syed Muhammad Yousuf; representative of Moulana Imran Raza Ansari — Syed Muhammad Tayyib Rizvi; Moulana Khursheed Ahmad Qanoongo; Ghulam Ali Gulzar; Agha Syed Mudasir Hussain Rizvi; Moulana Sabt Muhammad Shabbir Qummi; Ghulam Hassan Majrooh; Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi; Peer Ghulam Nabi; Muhammad Rafiq Zargar; and Moulana M.S. Rehman Shams, among others—(KNO)
